1. Studio +'s Music Production Courses

Free course for 13-19 yr olds.

MC

Industry professionals teach you to produce tracks and make recordings on Logic software and Macs. You go on visits, have free lunches and have your travel costs paid for you.

You work towards OCN Level 2 or 3 Audio and MIDI Sequencers. Literacy coaching, embedded in the music, is given by a Basic Skills Tutor, to prepare you to achieve Level 1 or 2 Edexcel Adult Literacy.        

A 12 week course on Wednesdays from 1pm - 4pm.

Runs from January - April 2008 at the Brunswick Club in North Fulham


 

2. Studio +'s Event Management Courses

Free course for 13-19 yr olds.

You make your own tunes and beats on Logic and record live audio. You also visit a professional music venue to learn how they manage live music events. You are given a real budget of several hundred pounds to put on an exciting live music event. You design publicity, book acts and venues and market the event yourself.

You are provided with lunch and can have your travel costs paid.

You work towards a Club Promotion Plan Level 2 accreditation, and you can get an Adult Literacy qualification equivalent to GCSE English Grade C.

A 10 week course on Mondays from January - March 2008

A 12 week course on Tuesdays from from January - April 2008
At the Brunswick Club, North Fulham and the Marian Community Centre, South Kilburn

 

 
3. Studio + Fast Tracks

 Logic session

A free short course for 14-25 yr olds from South Kilburn. Young people perform, record and edit tracks using Logic 8 software, then mix them down at a professional recording studio.

A 5 week course

4. 
Studio + Mix It Up at Kilburn Youth Centre

Free taster sessions where 14-25 yr olds from South Kilburn drop in and have a go at DJing, and MCing/singing over tracks their friends are mixing live. Students learn:

  • How to DJ with vinyl and CD deck
  • How to cue tracks, beat match/juggle and cross fade
  • How to do advanced mixing techniques
  • How to manipulate sound with electronic effects
  • How to improvise and back up an MC
  • How to introduce songs, speak to an  audience, and develop a DJ personality
  • Scratching techniques
  • About the functions of all components of the DJ equipment and mixing desk
  • How to set up DJ equipment safely and operate it responsibly
