HELP placement

'H.E.L.P client on a placement scheme'

Research has shown that many people living in temporary accommodation often find that their lives are ‘on-hold’ whilst waiting for permanent accommodation and H.E.L.P aims to address this through the services offered by our friendly advisors. Advisors can support people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness within Westminster by finding employment and training opportunities to further integrate them into their local communities.

Working with our advisors clients can expect to:

  • Be treated in a professional manner in our face-to-face or telephone sessions
  • Have all information treated as confidential
  • Gain employment and general careers advice and guidance
  • Receive information on jobs in the local area
  • Advice on education and volunteer opportunities available and assistance in making the right decision
  • Gain assistance in planning effectively, with clear objectives to help you achieve your employment, education or volunteer goals
  • Receive additional assistance from the HELP beneficiary fund, which can assist with childcare, training, travel and other costs
  • Receive additional support such as CV writing, completing application forms and interview skills
  • Become successfully placed in an opportunity, whether it be training, employment or volunteer work
'I was feeling useless and hopeless, career wise when I came across the HELP Project. I was given an interview date where I talked to an adviser about my desires and needs and we set up a plan. The adviser was able to make me aware of what I was capable of, what I already have and encouraged me to use it. She listened to me and using what I was telling her, we updated my CV. More over I feel at ease knowing that I have someone on a one to one basis from the HELP Project who is supporting and helping me to go through the process of finding a job/training. I can see a bright light at the end of a tunnel.'

The project has been running since June 2006 and is on profile to achieve the target of supporting 125 temporarily housed residents in Westminster by March 2008. City of Westminster Council, Dunlop Haywards and Vital Regeneration are working together in partnership to run this innovative project funded by London Councils/ ESF.
